President Trump boasted Thursday that the US economy was in better shape now than at any time in American history.
“We have the greatest economy, maybe ever in history. The greatest economy we have ever had,” the president told cheering union members at a rally touting his infrastructure plan in Richfield, Ohio.
“You know the expression from, I guess Bill Clinton, it is the economy, stupid. If we all together, if we didn’t win, this economy would be a wreck,” he continued, calling for GOP voters to not be complacent as the midterm elections grow nearer.
“They would have added more regulations,” he said about Democrats.
“This country was headed in the wrong direction. We can’t lose that by getting hurt in the midterms. We can’t be complacent. There has never been an economy like this.”
Trump also touted job creation, falling unemployment claims his steel and aluminum tariffs and progress in North Korea in his spirited remarks, the first for the president after a relatively quiet week on his part.
After the president spoke, he was headed to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida for a long holiday weekend.
